Virmire report: the dice told us to kill Wrex. The dice told us to kill Kaidan. "It was definitely bittersweet for me even though I had this huge grin on my face the entire time, because I do enjoy this game after all, and because I'm completely dead inside and require chemical assistance in order to stay functioning. Did I say that out loud? Anyway, there we go."

Fuck am I thinking when I monologue?

<edit> Also, I'm exporting my videos to YouTube. They're unlisted because ... because.

I mean, Kaidan always deserves to die, but I'm kind of suprised that the dice agreed with you. I figured you would have ended up getting stuck with him the whole trilogy.

Sounds like this dice thing is leading to interesting choices...

I haven't had time to play anything since before Thanksgiving. Lots of RL stuff going on... today Mom has an angioplasty / stent procedure scheduled and she's currently sitting in the car outside the hospital having anxiety attacks because she's scared to death of it. And she was supposed to be inside thirty minutes ago.

This has led to the whole family trying to convince her to walk in ... over Facebook. Yay facebook drama....

Road Warrior laptop is ready to go ... dual-booting Windows 10 Enterprise build 1607 and Ubuntu Desktop 16.10. Windows 10 partition is BitLocker encrypted; Ubuntu home directory is encrypted. System is a 4-year-old Sony Vaio with an i5-3210M, 8GB of RAM, 500GB Seagate hard disk, 15" 1366x768 display, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth ... and I've beaten the ever-living shit out of it. Carefully.
  • Drilled holes through the left side of the palm rest
  • Scratched the silver finish off the palm rest with a razor blade
  • Scratched the shiny black finish above the keyboard (where the speakers are located) and the display's bezel with a razor blade
  • Removed the rubber bumpers covering the screws holding the bezel on, and covered it with crappy black cloth tape
  • Scratched up the bottom of the laptop with a razor blade, paying extra attention to the labels containing the system's serial number and original Windows 7 product key, but leaving the manufacturer date (2012-05) intact
  • Removed the LCD from the lid and used a 1.25" hole saw to put a hole where the "O" in "VAIO" was, and then duct taped over it
  • Ran the edge of a drill bit over the lid perpendicular to the brushed aluminum finish, scratching the hell out of it
  • Hit the lid with a hammer a few times for some nice dents
  • Broke off the hinge covers and taped over the slots with the crappy cloth tape

The laptop works perfectly and is decently quick, but it looks absolutely beat to hell. My goal is to prevent it being stolen ... because it's happened to others in that office already.

Finished Mass Effect. Further to the fun I had on Virmire:
  • Not enough Paragon/Renegade to convince Saren to suicide, but killed him in one go without losing any squadmates in the process.
  • Destiny Ascension destroyed.
  • Council killed and replaced with all-human council.

That last one is new territory for me. I have let the council die before, but I've always replaced them with a new one made up of Turian, Salarian, Asari, and Human.

So ... that's all I've got for Mass Effect. Part 8 has been exported to YouTube and is processing.

I will be back in Chicago two weeks from today and, depending on how my jet lag treats me, I may start ME2 at that time. No streams until then, though.

Weirdly, there's a bug with that. Since the council Choice takes place after you essentially beat the game, the save doesn't record it. This is the only major decision that doesn't carry over to Mass Effect 2, and one of the reasons why Miranda needs to test you at the beginning of the next game.

This is not to say that your decision doesn't matter, it's just that you will need to make it again.

Huh. That's interesting ... I guess I'll have to remember that, then, because otherwise the dice will decide.

Started the anti-malaria drugs. Will have to take them daily while I'm there, and 7 days after I leave.

Printing out some new parts for my 3D printer. Part of the feed mechanism on it broke so I am printing a replacement.

I re-installed Borderlands Pre-Sequel just so I could see my characters' skill trees and gear setups. Having said that, I don't know why I decided that was something that needed to happen.
