Since the Gear Fit 2:

Two of these.
Two of these.
One of these.
One of these.
One of these.
A set of these (for my dad).
One of these.
And, finally, one of these.

  • 3-gallon bucket
  • Meguiar's G55012 Wash & Wax Kit
  • 3M 03435 automotive masking tape
  • 72pc 400 to 3000-grit wet/dry sandpaper
  • Meguiar's E7200 backing pad
  • Meguiar's X2000 microfiber drying towel
  • Chemical Guys MIC_493 chenille microfiber wash mitt
  • 2 cans of Dupli-Color BHA0978 Taffeta White paint
  • 2 cans of Dupli-Color BCL0125 Clear top coat
  • 2x 9006 low-beam headlight bulbs (Philips VisionPlus)
  • 2x 9005 high-beam headlight bulbs (Philips VisionPlus)
  • 2x 1157A parking/turn signal bulbs (Sylvania SilverStar)
  • ...and, as runt predicted, new driver/passenger-side headlight assemblies for the Civic.
  • 8mm/10mm bumper fasteners
  • Nitrile gloves that are actually in my freaking size

The headlights ... I didn't order the OEM ones because they're >$400 for a pair, but I got the ones that look like OEM in spite of the huge array of silly aftermarket ones (...Audi R8 knock-offs, anyone?). I had originally wanted to convert all bulbs in the Civic to LEDs, but that would have been way more expensive, and I can't convert the headlights because the engine bay is pretty tiny; a lot of the good units with CREE LEDs have a 1-2" heatsink/fan assembly sticking out the back and require a wire harness to adapt to 9005/9006. The 8th-generation Civic's engine bay is so tight that you can't simply open the hood and pop the new headlights in. If you're just replacing the bulb you have to turn the steering wheel all the way to the right (for driver's side, left for passenger's) peel the inner fender back, and replace the bulb from the bottom. Replacing the headlight assemblies will require me to remove the front bumper, which will be an enormous pain in the dick.

I figured I'd replace the bulbs because all but 2 of the bulbs in the vehicle are the ones that were in there on the showroom floor. The two I changed are the rear side markers, and I only did both because I replaced the incandescent bulbs with LEDs, for reasons.

Now ... the wash/paint shit? There are tons of scratches, and I did a shit job touching some of them up, so I'm going to murder the touch-up paint (dry/wet sanding inside taped-off areas), use a color-matched rattlecan (hence Taffeta White) to correct that, and then hit that with some clear once it dries. It also appears that there's a little rust forming in the fender areas ... my dad gave me a can of Rust-Oleum Rust Reformer, so I'll hit those spots with that stuff once the car's clean and colormatch/clear when the Reformer dries. Then, once the touch-up paint and clear dry completely, I'll rewash and wax.

This makes me glad I have those jack stands, since the car's pretty low to the ground and I'm ... not.

Oh, forgot to mention ... a Baymax "I am not fast" decal. After all, there's only so much grunt you can get out of a 1.3L gas-electric hybrid engine ...
