How to have a bad time:

1. Decide to swap a Core i5-2500 (non K) into an already built rig that has a 2500k (unlocked) CPU because the motherboard is from a Dell Vostro 260 / Inspiron 620 and doesn't support overclocking so said K series CPU is kind of a waste on it anyway.

2. Unbolt the waterblock / pump from the CPU and motherboard. In a relatively small Thermaltake Core v21 mATX chassis... that already has most of the room taken up by the 240mm radiator and long ass PNY Geforce 770 GPU. Needless to say it's not fun.

3. Get the replacement CPU cleaned, the old thermal compound cleaned from the waterblock / pump mating surface, and get the replacement CPU dropped in without damaging the damn pins in the socket.

4. Apply a bead of thermal paste and then spend TEN DAMN MINUTES trying to get the thumbscrew bolts on the waterblock to thread into the standoffs around the CPU socket, all the while trying not to slide the waterblock all over and displace the bead of thermal paste. Use lots of swear words.

And finally....

5. Stare in disbelief as you look at the POST screen and BIOS which lists a 2500k as the CPU. Become more dumbfounded as you think "holy crap, the guy sent me a 2500k by mistake, sweet!". And finally realize, as you stare blankly at the 'old' CPU laying on your desk, that you accidentally put the same goddamn motherfucking CPU back instead of replacing it. No fucking lie. I just fucking did this. I am livid. And laughing at the same time...

There we go, I've replaced the broken fan. I've also jammed the fan controller's thermistor into the gap near the SLI connectors so I can get at least a little bit of a temperature reading.

You broke a fan? What am I missing? LOL...

Anyway, speaking of broken fans, I just spent roughly $7 shipped on a replacement fan for my old GTX 560. Yes, I just spent $7 to repair the fan on a video card that's worth probably $40. But it was the "Duke's Fully Loaded Package" special edition card and I still have the whole retail box and all the extras... so I figure maybe it will be worth something someday lol.

Yeah, I was trying to reinstall my fan controller with the computer turned on and the front panel off. Ended up dropping the fan controller and the corner got caught in the blade, snapping it off. Oops.

Working on a new build... that's right, a THIRD machine for my fleet.

So far it's looking like:

Thermaltake Core V1 Snow Edition ITX chassis (So stoked, always wanted one of the Snow Edition cases)
Gigabyte H61N-USB3 ITX motherboard (Ebay, mfr refurb)
Core i5-3750k - Ivy Bridge, used and delidded from a HardForum user. This will be the first Ivy Bridge I've ever owned.

I'll have to scrounge the hoard for RAM, GPU, HDD, and PSU but hopefully that will be no problem...

The Snow Edition chassis are fun I just built a pair of machines in a View 27 Snow Edition. Only problem is that the white Riing fans that come with it aren't bright enough during daylight hours Other than that, though, it's a really cool case (for the application, at least) with the gullwing window up top. Also, getting a 360mm radiator in there is a minor annoyance.

I think all of the Snow Edition cases from TT are simply awesome... but then again I think all their cases are awesome especially for what they cost.

The THREE Core V21 cases I now own? (Ask me why I have three, I dare you... lol) I'd have them in white if it wasn't the one damn case in the 'Core' series that they don't make a Snow Edition version of. Snow X9 (That massive cube one I had before the V21)? It has a Snow Edition. The Core V1? Has one. That new tempered glass one in the Core series? Yup. It has a Snow Edition. My beloved V21? NO FUCKING SNOW EDITION.

If you search for 'V21 Snow Edition" you will get one picture that's actually a white V21, from back in Computex 2015 when they were showing off the (then brand new) Core series lineup. I guess they decided not to put it into production.

Last night the box I had ESXi loaded on died. Took down my UniFi controller, Plex Media Server & Home Automation VM. Means I get to move stuff around
