Mia's birthday party was today.

Full-blown chaos.

Pissed off.

The Gigabyte Windforce GTX 780 I thought I got a good deal on last week? Turns out I bought a $60 fucking doorstop.

Bah, the only one I have access to is a mobile one in my mom's Intel NUC, and even then, "access" is a relative term because it's BGA ... and in active use.

Sure, I don't mind not having a car anymore... it was just too convenient for me and my lifestyle.

Besides, I need all the exercise I can get anyway.

Picked up a 4570S for $60 from a user on the [H]... one of those lower power S chips but still perfectly capable. 2.9ghz that turbos up to 3.6ghz.

An i5-2500 (non K) also fell into my hands last week. I think I'll pull the 2500k out of the Dell Vostro 260 / Inspiron 620 board since it doesn't allow multiplier changes anyway, and then keep the 2500k in the stash - probably in one of the Z68 boards in the hoard to protect the socket pins.

Also picked up a GTX 770 for $60 which I thought was a decent deal. I've started hoarding GPUs lately - I'm tired of not having them around for kid's / family member's builds. Plus I think something might be wonky with my GTX 1080.

I'm actually putting feelers out for a GTX 960 or 970...

My car wants something. Hondas make sure you know that with the "Maintenance Minder" feature. They give you a letter and a number, and that tells you what it wants. My car decided it wants a "B13." That means "feed me a bunch of money, but not nearly as much as if I threw you a 4 in there somewhere" ... because "4" means "replace spark plugs, but there are 8 of them because of course there are 8 spark plugs in the smallest 4-cylinder engine Honda sold in the US in 2008."

In spite of this bitching, of course I'll do it. The Civic gets me from A to B reliably every day with zero mechanical problems. It's the most complicated one from 2008, the hybrid, so it has more stuff that can go wrong, but it just ... doesn't. I bought it about 10 years ago to the day, and it's been paid off for 7 of those years, and I'll be damned if anything other than a total "holy shit it'll cost me way more to repair this than the car's worth" situation would make me even consider getting rid of it.

In other news ... I'll need to feed it new tires too, since the ones it's on now are nearing the end of their usable lives.

The 2008 Honda Civic Hybrid is the slowest goddamn car I've ever owned, but it is also the most reliable car I've ever owned. Mechanically, it feels the same as when I drove it off the lot in 2008, if not a little bit better due to tweaks in some of the transmission software. Cosmetically ... well, I need to fix up some of the areas around the wheel wells that look like they're getting a little rusty, but that's no biggie. The van (2014 Odyssey) has given me more of a hassle in its 4 years in the garage than the Civic has in its 10.

That reminds me, I just changed the oil and filter on the '03 CR-V. The oil was SUPER low, and I yelled at my cousin for not checking it more often. Now, the car has 153,000+ miles on it and Honda's of that vintage are known for high oil consumption for various reasons. But damn, the oil was well below the 'minimum' hole on the dipstick. I about shit a brick when I saw that.

One of the things that's been known to cause higher than 'normal' oil consumption is a worn out or stuck PCV valve, and it's a common failure part at this age, so we bought a new one and I'm planning to replace that soon. I'm also planning to Seafoam the top end - which should make for an awesome smoke show since to my knowledge it's never been done on this vehicle before. Oh yeah, and the front passenger squishy doofer juice sprayer seems to be clogged or something so I need to fix that.

But it's been a great car the last couple of years we've owned it. The only things we've done to it are typical consumption / wear parts. It got a brand new set of tires at the end of last summer. Sometime last year the front passenger side CV joint and wheel bearing got replaced. Wiper blades got replaced last October. Windshield got replaced a week ago today because the crack in it spread completely across the field of vision lol.

She starts and goes and I bet she will do so for another 150,000 miles, providing my doofus cousin doesn't keep running it low on oil... gah!

Yeah, at 120k my Cavalier is like "oh whoops, head gasket is blown and there's some physical damage now". Which roughly means I'm taking the bus for the near future. Thankfully the grocery store is half a mile down the road so I can walk there if/when I need to.

Anyway, unrelated but I saw this and thought of at least one person here.
