Hnnngggggggggggggggggggg ... Plex is so great. I've only ever used it on Windows since I always run it on my main rig for some reason, but it seems to work.

There are two things that put me in a shitty enough mood to not want to play games. They just so happen to be my children.

Shoot, I don't think I'd ever be able to stand running it on my main rig. I am too stingy when it comes to CPU cycles. I don't even like things like the RGB software for my keyboard, video card, and CLC running in the background... which is three separate programs. GRRRH. I tolerate it though because.... RGB is still fucking cool.

I just loaded it on my desktop since I don't have a Core 2 box up and running yet. Weekend plans to do that.....
If you guys want to friend me on Plex let me know.

As much as I was dissing VLC a couple days ago, I have found one super handy use for it.
Specifically, the Android port. It plays stuff off my Plex server with no problem. I don't feel like paying for the Plex Pass or whatever it's called to be able to use their native Android app. |

Right now I'm installing a minimal CentOS VM under VirtualBox and am going to set up a local repo. I'll attempt to install another instance of CentOS using that repo, and will also attempt to install some optional packages and stuff.

Woke up at 2:30AM, I'm not happy about it. Laid there in bed for an hour watching Star Trek and then resigned myself to getting up. Coffee infusion began at precisely 4:04AM.
The used Gigabyte GTX 780 Windforce edition and EVGA GTX 660 came in yesterday, I need to bring in a rig to test them both so I can leave the sellers Heatware feedback. I also sold my Canon Powershot SX710 HS so I need to weigh it and print postage. Actually I have no scale, so the weight will be a guestimate. Also on the agenda is replacing the worn tires on my bike. My aunt bought me some new Schwinn cruiser tires which are slightly fatter than the current ones and have a more aggressive tread pattern. I'm hoping these will be grippier because I'm getting tired of the bike threatening to wipe out at the mere hint of mud, sand, or gravel. Hell, even hitting a twig or rock at just the right angle and speed is cause for alarm lol. It's probably about time, I know I've put at least 800 miles on the bike and no telling how many were on the tires before I got it. |

My local repository experiment was a success. I was able to perform a full sync overnight, and then perform a centos netinstall on another local VM in under 3 minutes, followed by a full yum update in less than 2. Definitely faster than doing it over a 45 Mbps connection.
Now to plan it out for the office. I don't allow outbound tcp/873, so I'll need to open that for a server to do rsync. I'll also need to check out our existing centos boxes to see which repos they're running, and make local mirrors of those as well. I know the base, upgrades, and epel repos are needed, and I prefer to implement webmin as a yum repo rather than to install it from rpm because hooray dependency verification. We do have a pair of 1 Gbps lines coming into the building, so it's not a question of low bandwidth ... I figure having one server go out and get the updates is a lot more efficient than having a shit-load of them do it. Now ... wonder if I can set up a raspbian repository on centos as well ![]()
