So ... beginning to hate the Netgear R8000. Stock firmware is hot garbage, so I put dd-wrt on it. But ... dd-wrt drops a lot of my devices when I log into the web interface for any reason, at any time. That's 4 Chromecasts, a Google Home Mini, a Nest E, and a Gogogate 2. Rebooting the router from the web interface (i.e. clicking the "reboot" button and closing the interface as quickly as possible) doesn't bring them back. Only power-cycling the router does it.

That means I'm investigating new routers, of course. #3 is Synology RT2600ac; #2 is the Samsung Connect Home; and #1 is between the AmpliFi HD and Google Wi-Fi (though I'd need a 5-port switch with the Google one because it has only a single LAN port).

I briefly considered Ubiquiti as well, but all of the above are far less expensive than a 24-port PoE switch (500W), a UniFi Security Gateway, a UniFi Cloud Key, and a couple APs (doesn't matter which, but it's between the AP AC PRO and nanoHD).

The 4k display on the Lenovo P52s is unusable for several reasons. At 100% scaling it's completely illegible. At the default 250% it's legible but the applications do not scale consistently at all. Some applications scale fine, others show the title/toolbars fine but then the window contents are a clusterfuck.

Microsoft System Center Operations Manager is the worst offender here by far -- the navigation tree scales the text up but not the icons, and the line height is decided by the icons, so the bottom half of the text is cut off. The "Active Alerts" pane is worse -- it scales the icon and the text, but doesn't increase the line height, so half of the icon is missing and half of the text is missing. Then, even worse, the "Alert Details" pane is scaled to 100%, which makes it completely illegible without a magnifying glass.

...and what's really bad about this is that the problems carry over into Remote Desktop sessions. So, even though my session is on a 2560x1080 display, I get all the shitty weird scaling issues because I booted the machine at its native resolution.

Think I'm going to see if I can find a 1920x1080 screen for this laptop ... seriously, 4k @ 15" is garbage.

Friend of mine picked up the Handsome Collection on PS4, which is awesome because BL2 is awesome, but I'm annoyed because he already had BL2 on PC that he's barely played and now I can't twink the hell out of him at random junctures.

Also I re-installed Borderlands 2 because REASONS? even though I doubt I'll actually play it before it's uninstalled again.

LG annoys me because build quality and updates have been an afterthought on the V20. Samsung annoys me because I don't want a damn edge display on everything, I don't want to pay $1000 for a phone, and the S8 Active (which doesn't have an edge display but is previous-generation) is expensive, and after 2 OTA updates they slow down to 2006-level speeds. A top-of-the-range OnePlus 6 is $200 less than the S8 Active ... but OnePlus is still pretty shady in my mind. The Essential is dirt cheap now, but there's no guarantee they'll be around tomorrow. Google's announcing the Pixel 3 soon, but it'll probably be expensive as sin, because the low prices died with the Nexus name.

Apple's coming out with the iPhone XR, which is $100 cheaper than the Galaxy S8 Active.

I'm an Android fanboy, but flagships are getting a bit ridiculous in price if I can say "a brand-new iPhone is cheaper than a previous-generation Galaxy S8."

So far I'm loving my G7 ThinQ, but it is behind my wife's Note 8 for updates.

250GB HDD means I'm much more likely to rotate games than just install and forget.

Closer to the current topic, I'm holding on to my Samsung Note5 for dear life. There's nothing wrong with it, I just don't have the Mountain of Cash(tm) required for a replacement.

edit: I have like, 9 games installed. But most of them are smaller titles like The Turing Test, or The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit. The only real "big" games I have going on are DOOM, Prey, and BL2.

Relatedly, that got me to uninstall a few games earlier because I hadn't played them in a while and had no interest in continuing them.

As far as right now, I'm kind of killing time before bed? I've done everything I usually do post-work and have had dinner. I'd rather not go to bed early (even though it's only a half-hour), but I am definitely a bit bored at the moment.
