Skype for Business is a silly, finicky beast. I got it working with Asterisk at one point ... that was mind-numbing. But now we're doing straight-up SIP over TCP with an ITSP ... whitelist a couple IPs here and there and BAM, works like a friggin' champ.

SIP over TCP for us as well. Just getting CUCM to send calls to the right place sucks.

Do you use actual phones on desks? We used to have Polycom Soundpoint IP 601 phones, but got rid of them years ago in favor of the Skype for Business client and headsets. The office is so much quieter as a result

I've been thinking about my current rig and I'm pretty sure I'm just going to upgrade the CPU to this and slap this watercooler on top of it whenever it is I get some extra cash. Current system is otherwise still pretty good, and to jump on the Kaby Lake train I'd need to build an entirely new computer (other than vid card) and that's a bigger hurdle right now than I'd like it to be.

Unless the Mass Effect Andromeda requires it then I'll sell a kidney or something.

The web host. Apparently they're shite. Something about a switch failure. Funny thing -- I had a switch fail as well, and it took me half an hour to get back up and running. It's not impossible

So while not a ludicrous deal like that one from a few months ago, Costco has (for members) a 60" Samsung LED TV for $549.99. It's valid through February 4th, which is just about Super Bowl time.

Yup. I just woke up and discovered that everything is back online.

We're moving though, that was the last straw for me.

I'm currently pulling fresh backups of everything.

I just finished securing a new VPS for all of our websites and services.

It's with ImpactVPS and is actually one of their 'VDR' packages which I've heard great things about.

'VDR' or 'Virtual Dedicated Resources' actually gives me tons of flexibility - in fact I could create several different VPSes out of a pool of allocated resources.

I basically get 12 CPU cores, 12GB RAM, 135GB SSD storage, and I can allocate those resources as I see fit. Into one VPS, or into multiple VPSes and they can be spread out across any of the datacenters ImpactVPS occupies. This gives me some redundancy capabilities I didn't necessarily have before.

All of the above for $12 monthly (normally $36, but I got a deal through a rep on LowEndTalk.com).

So today I'm going to finish pulling down some backups of critical data from our current VPS and then go relax somewhere. Tomorrow I'll begin setting up the new VPS(es) at ImpactVPS and hopefully begin moving things over before the weekend.
