250GB Samsung 960 EVO NVME in M.2 format. I figured after rocking the two 500GB 850 EVO SATA in RAID0 for what must be over two years now, I deserved some super duper fast storage for my OS drive.

Still keeping the two 850 EVOs, but broke them out of the RAID and running them as individual drives now. This allows me to run Samsung Magician so I can keep an eye on the drive stats.

One of the 850 EVOs has 3.3TB total writes, the other has 5.5TB. That's not too shabby for SSDs that are rated to at least 150TB total lifetime writes.

It wasn't in the plan, but I've got the following used hardware coming my way:

From one seller:
Gigabyte Z68X-UD3P (very close sibling to my Z68XP-UD3, in fact I don't know what the difference actually is)
Core i5 2400 (Sandy Bridge)

From another seller:
Core i5 2500k (Another Sandy Bridge)
Thermaltake Riing 240 CLC

From another seller:
EVGA Geforce GTX 570

From another seller:
Geforce GTX 660 (not sure of the brand, actually)

It was literally a string of one good deal after another on the [H].

$80 for the Z68 board and i5-2400
$40 for the 2500k
$40 for the Thermaltake CLC
$40 for both GPUs.

I'm gonna have to sell some other stuff to make it happen, but oh well.

Difference in the Z68XP-UD3 and Z68X-UD3 is that the Z68X doesn't have built-in video or mSATA, the Z68XP does. Otherwise the boards are twinkies...

A tempered glass side panel for my Thermaltake Core V51 Riing Edition. The green side panel has annoyed me for a while. Also got an additional 120mm green Riing fan and three 256-color LED strips for said case. I NEED RGB

Another GTX 780, this time a Gigabyte Windforce edition.

In a strange twist of fate, TWO additional Thermaltake Core v21 cases.
Canon S120 for the 'Youtube production studio' - My old 110 HS is just about dead

Another used Dell Vostro 260 / Inspiron 620 mATX motherboard to plop that extra 2500k into

So the current plan is to build a second machine with the above parts to stack on my current rig and use for video rendering so I won't have to tie up my main rig. When I'm rendering a video in Sony Vegas you pretty much can't do anything else. Even watching a Youtube video requires going into task manager and lowering Vegas' priority to free up CPU slices.

The guy with the GTX 780 just told me he threw some sticks of Corsair DDR3 into the package too, if they work that almost completes the build!

  • Lifetime Plex pass
  • 18-200mm lens for Nikon D3100
  • 50mm prime lens for Nikon D3100
  • An assortment of filters for the lenses
  • Two lens hoods (tulip + rubber)
  • A flash (the built-in one is shit) + diffusers

I 3D printed a tulip lens hood for the 18-55mm lens that came with the camera, but it got stuck on, to the point that I damaged the assembly trying to take it off. The damn thing rattles when you shake it, which ain't great. Given that the 18-55 was the only one I had, I've been without a lens since September. Mia's birthday party is coming up, I needed a lens, and I figured I should just use the opportunity to get a couple more camera things.

Also, I've been wanting to get the Plex pass for a while. Thinking I'm going to snag a capture card and antenna as well to take advantage of the live TV/DVR functionality of Plex.

I am testing a monthly Plex pass to sync movies to my phone for my commute. Works great so far. I do however need more friends on Plex

Oh ... I cancelled the 50mm prime and ordered a 35mm prime instead. Turns out the 50mm I chose isn't an AF-S lens, which means that it supports autofocus, but not the D3100's.

I broke a blade off one of my 140mm Riing fans while I was trying to reinstall my fan controller. That's what I get for installing the fan controller while, you know, the computer's on. Oh well. Snagged a replacement. Should be here tomorrow.

Figures ... 20 minutes after I leave the office the fan shows up and someone else signs for it. Damn it. Oh well, guess I'll just run short one fan until Monday.
