It looks like I'm going to be rebuilding the UnRaid / NAS / Plex server sooner than I thought. It's gone dark, I can't even hit the web interface. That means I gotta bring the ladder in to bring the server down from it's 10 foot high perch atop the living room built-in shelves.

It's at this moment I'm regretting putting all that equipment way up there.

I don't even know the last time I logged into Facebook. Some time early last year, I think? I deactivated it after having not logged in in like, 6 months or so, but I have no idea when that was.

Fell down a rabbit hole on YouTube and now I want 1.2 billion credit cards that I will never use.

Just spent all night rebuilding the UnRAID / Plex / NAS box.

Old config:

Asus P5QPL LGA775 motherboard
Core 2 Quad Q6600 (or maybe a Q9450, I can't remember)
2x2GB DDR2 800mhz RAM
1x 5TB Western Digital RED
1x 8TB Western Digital RED
Old flaky Corsair Flash Voyager 8GB USB 3.0 as UnRAID boot

New config:

Dell Inspiron / Vostro LGA1155 motherboard
Core i5-2500 (non-K)
2x4GB DDR3 1600 (Corsair XMS3)
1x 5TB Western Digital RED
1x 8TB Western Digital RED
Brand new Sandisk Ultra Fit 16GB USB 3.0 thumb drive as UnRAID boot

Hopefully the CPU jump will assist in Plex transcoding. I'm on the hunt for an i7-2600 or 2700 to replace that 2500 with. Because threads.

I haven't powered the new config up yet. Trying to decide if I trust it enough to just toss it back up on it's perch and power it on up there.

I heart Plex. It is just the bee's knees.

It took something like 12 re-installs of the MLB.TV app to get it working correctly. Fuckin' finally.

edit: I was incorrect; I "accidentally" downloaded the newest iteration of the app (which is it's own separate thing, not an update) instead of installing the app I used last season.

And holy shit, the new UnRAID box kicks major ass at transcoding.... should have built it with a Sandy Bridge / Ivy Bridge in the first place ... it kicks the shit out of the old Core 2 Quad Q9550.

Oh, and I finally got my main rig back up and running.

Replaced the brand new Asus ROG STRIX Z370-I (Mini ITX) with basically the mATX version of the same board. Sure fills out that Core V21 nicely... lol. Overclocks better too...

So the little 3570K / H61N ITX build in the Snow Edition case is sitting dormant for now until I need it for something. Eventually I plan to get it setup so I can easily use it for mundane tasks like video encoding - I'm just not sure how I want to go about that. Finding a physical KVM that supports 4K video is rough and they're expensive as hell. So I may be looking at software solutions like remote desktop or VNC or whatever.
